Know more about history of Egypt! Codex of Sinaiticus.

Know more about history of Egypt! Codex of Sinaiticus.

Codex Sinaiticus is the oldest written Bible discovered and it goes back to the 4th century AD. It was written in Greek letters on parchment and originally contained both testaments and the Epistle of Barnabas but what survived is just the New Testament. Codex Sinaiticus was owned by Egypt and was kept by St. Catherine Monastery then accordi
ng to the Monks story that Tichendorf who was a scholar paid a visit to the monastery in 1844 and did borrow the codex then he smuggled most of it to Germany. On the other hand Tichendorf claimed that the monks were ignorant in way that they trashed the codex for waste and it was rescued by him. Today most of the Codex Sinaiticus is displayed in the British Museum and some are left in St. Catherine Monastery. Before the revealing and the introduction of the Codex Sinaiticus to the west the other Codex (the Codex Vaticanus) was counted to be the oldest. Written by Yasser Kamel for Museumegypt.2006.

Ancient Egypt Symbols-B

Ancient Egypt was the richest with its unique symbols and that is what researchers can come with once looking at the Egyptian carvings. Some of the ancient Egyptian symbols were by nature inspired from the Hieroglyphic characters and some were created to become emblems for gods or kings.
The figure above(F-1) represents one of the two matching sides for king Tutankhamen gold- plated throne which dates back to (1400-1300 B.C) Just one look at that unique carving is more than enough to stun anyone and obviously it represents a winged cobra snake with the double crown on it’s head ! This is exactly what most of visitors to the Egyptian museum can tell! But actually the meaning is further deep and a lot more beyond imagination!? .

Taking a moment of deep concentration at the same figure leads to uncover another unification symbol for ancient Egypt as you can see below the double crown two heads are integrated with each other. A very obvious head for a cobra snake while facing the left side and another head in the shape of a vulture faces the other direction! Here we can imagine how genius the artist was in order to create such head that can refer to different creatures at once. Now that  symbol which has a hidden significance and almost unnoticed by many , gathers between Lower Egypt patroness the cobra snake Uadjet and the Upper Egyptian patroness the vulture Nekhbet and both have some of their distinctive features represented such as wings ,tale and so on. Akhenaton greatest achievement was his adoption to a monotheist god “ Aton” in Egypt while been known of its polytheism .Yasser kamel

Ancient Egypt symbols.A

Taking just a glimpse of ancient Egypt legendry symbols is enough to boggle someone’s mind , the broad imagination which led those genius artists to create one of its kind holy images that no body ever thought of it , makes ancient Egypt more mysterious !. Staring at Giza sphinx for a moment could be the best way to realize how fortunate Egypt was with its artists. Creating such emblem with such harmony between man‘s head and lion’s body is a splendid creation. We think the sphinx symbolically refers to a ruler that enjoys wisdom and strength.

The Hathoric pillar is another great symbol which required a smart imagination from the artist as he was able to establish a unique harmony between woman facial features and the cow ones. In such symbol Hathor, goddess of love and beauty, is depicted with an oval face and a broad nose as well as horns and ears of cow meanwhile it has delicate woman face features as for the eyes ,the mouth ,the cheeks and the hair. The utmost challenge for that genius artist was to maintain that symphony between the animal and the man in a way that keeps Hathor beauty distinguished. Indeed we may not be able to create such symbol today.( painting by Yasser Kamel) Written by Yasser Kamel for Museumegypt.2006.

The Papyrus is ancient Egypt greatest invention!

Ancient Egypt greatest invention was the Papyrus paper which was produced from the Papyrus plant and had been proven to be the best writing material ever .  “ Pa-Per-Ao” was one of the many names that the papyrus was named with and it means the Pharaoh’s belonging .Also “ Pa-Per-Ao” is the source for the word “Paper” which is still in use! The Papyrus was mainly used for saving the scientific knowledge and the Chronology for prolonging ages and that would include the religious books such as of the Im-Duwat or book of the Dead. The use of papyrus in ancient Egypt synchronized with the invention of the Hieroglyphics which was earlier than 3200 B.C and was most probably a northern invention. The pre -historic northern Egyptian cultures were unique of their sophisticated finds and belongings such of their gold plated wooden statues and their food tools such as slate or ivory spoons ,forks, and knives. In spite of the rareness of the northern cultures remains but the few of it can refer to a much more advanced cultures than it’s co-existing southern ones. The choice that was taken by those northern cultures for the papyrus to become a native emblem was not just based on being it indigenous to North of Egypt or lower Egypt but it was for the value of the papyrus papers which helped the late pre historic cultures to keep constantly advanced. Once to look at the early pre-historic northern culture finds of tombs you get stunned of seeing such amount of pure gold that had been used in plating their statues as well as the elegantly slate-made spoons which go back to 4000 B.C duration but because of not using the papyrus papers, it caused the loss of their gained knowledge and mainly of their unique goldsmiths and for the gold smelting which  resulted a severe backwardness that led those culture once again to the flint stone use. We may reveal more secrets about the papyrus once to uncover and excavate more in the land of papyrus “the north of Egypt”. The unification between the northern kingdom and the southern kingdom once it was established by king Mene” Mena”  helped in introducing the papyrus in the whole newly united kingdom. The papyrus had protected the ancient writing and inscriptions which augmented the Egyptian civilization longevity and  unity. Egypt and the search for Imhotep!

Egypt and the search for Imhotep!

Egypt in the past was a lot more fortunate than its neighboring cultures and the luckiest ever to have its renaissance to start 4000 years before Italy and France, a Long time before Michael Angelo and L
eonardo Da Vinci to be born! Imhotep our renaissance-man was there. Imhotep was the man of many skills as he was a mathematician, an architect, an Artist, a sculptor, Astronomer a Physician and the minister of Egypt during the third dynasty.
Imhotep greatest achievements was the shifting from the use of wood and mud in construction to the use of stone which required from Imhotep creating the first outstanding architecture based on using wooden reinforcement once to deal with right-angle or oblique structures. Imhotep best evidence on his invention and mastering to the Geometry of triangles is the building of the step pyramid. The same science which was used by the Pyramids of Giza royal architects then was discovered written on the Rhind Mathematical papyrus by the ancient Egyptian Mathematicians from almost 4000 yeas ago and long time before Pythagoras and the Pythagorean theorem to be taught. Now Egypt awaits the rise of Imhotep for a new Renaissance! Written by Yasser Kamel for Museumegypt.2006.

Know more about ancient Egypt!

Know more about ancient Egypt!

“IBYAT” or the prayer mantis in ancient Egyptian Book Of The Dead. The prayer-mantis god, Ibyat who would assist the deceased by protecting and leading him to Osiris Island which is according to book of the dead it must play the role of a guide or conductor for the dead. Once looking at a scientific reason for getting it deified we discover his great ability to sensor danger using his sensory receptors which are located in his thoracic cavity. The prayer mantis sensory receptors are so sensitive to all low frequency waves of ultrasound such of bats ultrasonic waves and that allow the mantis to detect it then escape simply by landing in a right angle. That could be the reason  behind deifying it by the ancient Egyptian first then later by a lot of ancient African cultures. Ancient Egyptian walls and floors.B

F-6 . The step pyramid complex.

Looking at the ancient temples walls and floors would inspire one technique that was followed in order to cut stones can interlock in such the way observed in ( F-2) which is being stones  cut from one spot in a specific quarry according to an exact plan. The pre cutting plan should help in creating such interlocking stones for unrepeated structure which means that such floor or wall would not be removed or restored without the original plan!. The great evidence on such theory is our obvious fail to reconstruct floors of the ancient temples which had to be rescued because of lake Naser and the effect of the High dam between 1960-1980 see (F-4).

F-4. The floor of Philae temple after it has been reconstructed.

The most ancient stone structure that was laid out on interlocking stones is the step pyramid complex which goes back to the 3rd dynasty and to Zoser’s reign(F-5) &(F-6).

Ancient Egyptian walls and floors.A

One of the most challenging issues in the Egyptian archaeology is comprehending the architectural rules and layouts for the ancient walls and floors. Ancient Egyptian walls and floors of temples were designed and created to maintain a profound resistance to erosion, quakes and earth slides. The most obvious method to consolidate the temples floors and walls was  the use of the dove-tail locking between stones which is phenomenal in the late Egyptian  temples but not much followed in earlier temples.

The dove-tail lock is depending on the quality of the filling and the plaster use rather than the solidness of the stone itself. However, the dove-tailing is so impressive , it is easily traced and comprehended. The actual challenge comes from the very ancient temples and the Pyramids once someone to stand still failing to reconstruct an ancient wall however having most of its stone found. The stunning fact is that those ancient temples survived in much better condition due to their unique layouts. In such temples, the interlocking stones which are hooked to each other and needlessly for plaster or mortar are the main reason behind their survival. The dilemma for restoring those temples is that each stone is unique and one of its kind or on other words none of the stones are equal in shape or size or weight, which is totally different to modern criss –cross walls and floors.
